Kuan-Chou Liao

Northern Clinical School, University of Melbourne

Kuan-Chou is a final year medical student and has been a passionate member on the Choosing Wisely Steering Committee at Northern Health since July 2018. He has been involved in numerous research projects to provide sustainable, safer and better care to patients. His main project is the implementation of a clinical decision pathway in the ED to improve diagnostic pathway for pulmonary embolism and to reduce harm from excessive imaging. He had the opportunity to present this project at Northern Hospital Grand Rounds in Feburary 2019. He is also involved in auditing groin ultrasounds as they continue to be ordered despite not being indicated due to clinically apparent hernias. Furthermore, he helped in the Northern Health Consumer Awareness Project to improve consumer confidence at outpatient clinics to ask more questions to clinicians regarding their healthcare. Kuan-Chou is keen to further this research interest to reduce unnecessary tests and treatments during his internship.
